Winter Safety Tips
Please shovel out any hydrants that are near your homes or apartments. The time saved by firefighters in an emergency situation could help save a life.
Be sure to get your chimneys inspected every year for damage and buildup. Chimney fires can be prevented by a good maintenance schedule
When packing away your holiday decorations, be sure to leave adequate room near furnaces and other utility equipment in basements and storage rooms. This will prevent ignition of stored decorations by a malfunction of the heating equipment

Be careful on slippery sidewalks and roads. A slip and fall could land you in the hospital.
Be careful while driving, and keep a small emergency kit in your vehicle that includes things like a blanket and a shovel. If you get stuck in a snowbank or ditch, do not wander far from your vehicle because it can protect you from wintry weather. Carry a mobile telephone with you for emergencies if at all possible. Remember that all mobile phones can dial '911' even if they have been disconnected and will get you in touch with authorities.
